Denali Climb 2016

Denali on a rare, clear day

Aaron is training for a solo climb of Denali (Mt. McKinley) in spring 2016. His Denali Climb 2016 Expedition will be challenging and difficult. It requires major preparation.

Climbing North America’s tallest mountain is arduous at best, brutal at worst. 50% of people succeed in climbing Denali. Some even say Denali is tougher than Everest.

Training, weather, and accidents are the primary reasons why people fail to reach the summit. Even the best trained are sometimes turned back. The 20,322 foot peak is notorious for bad weather. It is common for expeditions to be tent bound for days at a time.

Mountaineering and What It Takes

Denali Climb 2016Aaron has already begun his training program for Denali Climb 2016. The tougher the training, the more prepared one will be for this mountain. Aaron is using a mountain hard-man training program to strengthen for this high peak. Climbing “The Great One” requires consistent exercise, workouts in bad weather, and some luck.

Normal climbing days on Denali are 8-12 hours. He will carry a 50 pound pack and tow another 100 pounds. The cold weather gear is similar to Antarctica, in addition to high altitude climbing equipment.

The last time Aaron was in Alaska was 2004. He will now return 12 years later to climb the mountain he saw from Denali National Park. If things go well, he could summit in as little as 14 days. If weather is challenging, the summit may take 21 days or more.

If Aaron is successful, he will become the first and only American to have solo skied to the South Pole and solo climbed Denali.
